Computers in Homes receives Highly Commended EEO Diversity Award

Di Daniels and Selwyn Screen receive the EEO Award from Minister Jo Goodhew

The 2020 Trust’s Computers in Homes programme was recognised with a Highly Commended Award in the Cultural Celebration category at the annual Equal Employment Opportunity (Diversity Works) Diversity Awards, held in Auckland on 27 August 2014.  Trustees Selwyn Screen and Hazel Jennings attended the Awards dinner along with Computers in Homes National Coordinator, Di Daniels and a number of Computers in Homes supporters.

The Cultural Celebration award celebrates innovative responses to cultural and ethnic engagement in the workforce.

“At Computers in Homes we celebrate the cultural diversity of the New Zealand communities within which we work by reflecting that diversity in our workforce,” said Di Daniels. “Over 50% of our employees identify as Maori or Pasifika and have been chosen from within the communities they serve in their regions. Those who do not exactly ‘match’ the broader demographics of their region have experience and training in working with diverse cultural groups. Other tau iwi represented in our national office staff include Indian and Chinese so our quarterly hui are a reflection of New Zealand society at large.”
