Members of Parliament gather to be called onto Ratana Marae for the annual celebrations of Tahupotiki Wiremu Ratana’s birthday. Computers in Homes coordinators were invited to attend the corresponding Maori Digital Forum held in the Ratana ICT Hub and Archive Centre on 23rd January 2015. The Maori ICT gathering was attended by Di Daniels (National Coordinator) Shona Te Huki (Manawatu-Horowhenua) and Tania Van Der Vegte (Whanganui) along with other ICT educators and facilitators from around the Motu to discuss “how we can work together as a collective of Indigenous ICT whanau, strengthening the future of our industry leaders , through laying a clear pathway for Hapu/Whanau development”.
Apart from meeting and sharing with new contacts in various aspects of ICT, it was a chance to reconnect with old friends of Computers in Homes like Colin Heke (Tokoroa 2003 and http://www.raukawafm.co.nz/pag_cms_id_195_p_colin-heke.html), Potaua Biasiny-Tule (Rotorua, NetHui and www.tangatawhenua.com), Ratu Tibble (Murupara) and Rei Sciascia (Hawkes Bay and SwiftNet rural Wi-Fi). Community and Hapu connections are precious to our work with Computers in Homes families and we welcome opportunities to be involved in forward discussions around promoting Te Reo Maori, Digital Inclusion and development opportunities for Whanau/Hapu/Iwi.
